Annual General Meeting 2005
MINUTES OF THE 3rd A.
G. M.
HELD AT
NEWTON PARK HOUSE, LYMINGTON.
ON SATURDAY 19TH FEBRUARY 2005.
The
Chairman, Bill Rich, opened the meeting, welcomed members and
thanked our host Charles Burnett III for the use of his
magnificent house for our meeting and also for allowing us to
visit his workshops where the car for the steam land-speed
record is being built. It is with regret that we announce the
passing of one of our member Frank Lee, age 61. Our sympathies
go out to his widow
Apologies:
David Webster, Graham Rankin, Humphrey Hamlin, Peter Lumsden,
Robert Williams, Clive Hearsey, Richard & Diana Hounslow, John
Hill, Alun Griffiths, Les Nelson, Peter Turvey, John Liming,
Gareth & Maureen Jones.
Minutes 2004:
Minutes were circulated among members, and agreed as a correct
record. Proposed David Goddard, 2nd John Tilley.
Matters arising:
There were no matters arising.
Chairman's Report:
Bill Rich informed the club of the very successful year filled
with many steaming events which our members have participated
in, include Australia, Germany, Brittany and many events in the
United Kingdom. Well done everyone involved.
The membership has sadly declined, but on a good note the new
steam cars' coming into the country shows that there is good
interest within the club.
The Magazine is truly amazing with a variety of interesting
articles so ably put together by Jeff Theobald in his second
year as Editor. We are truly indebted to Jeff for his diligence
in producing such a wonderful magazine well done Jeff. (Peter
Williams asked to thank Jeff also for his work on the Web page
and all members voiced their thanks)
He then thanked Joy Davies for all her hard work and support
during her first year as Club secretary. I am so pleased that
Joy accepted to do what can be a hard and thankless task.
Secretary/Treasurer's Report:
Joy Davies asked if there are any questions about the accounts.
There being no questions. Accounts were proposed by Gerry
Stoneman and 2nd by Diana Goddard. Auditors for 2005 James
Holyoak & Parker Charted Accountants, proposed by David Goddard
and 2nd by David Harding.
The main item was the bank wishing to apply bank charges and
this was sorted for the present. In the forthcoming year we
shall loose some income from Commission raised through Britannia
Rescue, which helped to pay for Federation of British Historic
Vehicle Club Subscription (£4.00 in 2003-2004). This is due to
Financial Services Authority Regulation which came into affect
in January 2005.
Membership to date is 356 with last year total 359 we have
gained 42 new members in the last year and we have lost 45
through deaths, not renewing their membership or waiting for the
subscriptions. The 42 new members 50% are via a friend or shows
and 50 % via our Web page. Therefore to keep the cost of
membership down I do ask that all members pay on their first
reminder.
The membership reminder has changed to include a mini
Questionnaire regarding cars sold, bought or own in the last
year and also whether you are willing to help other members with
technical information.
Joy thanked all the committee for their help during the past
year and a special thanks to Diana Goddard.
Derek Mills asked if it was possible for a members list to be
distributed with the magazine once a year, it was put to the
floor and voted that this would happen, proposed by Derek Mills
and 2nd by John Tilley (24 for 7 against) Motion passed. Members
were asked to contact Joy if they do not wish their names to go
out on this list.
Editor/Archivist Officer's Report:
Jeff Theobald said that he had enjoyed editing the magazine and
that photos and articles were coming in from regular sources. He
asked others to put pen to paper to keep the interest going, the
last magazine had been put together very quickly due to the
amount of articles to hand. Jeff was a little concerned that the
magazine printing had held their price for a few years and
warned that prices could go up. His interest in the Web Site has
provided the club with extra medium.
Bob Dyke asked if there was a need to increase the magazine size
by eight pages. Jeff said he would look at this.
Authentication Officer's Report:
Arthur Thomson informed us he had quite a year with the influx
of cars coming in from America and Australia and had to send
numerous letters to the Customs and Excise Departments. He also
had a couple of age related cars to assist with and of course
Reg Parsons car which is now on the road and will be another
addition to our fold. Chairman Bill Rich said he was looking
forward to see them all on the road maybe on our tours.
Tours 2005:
Peter Stevenson informed us that the planning for the Midlands
Meander tour June 19th -24th 2005 was all going well with 34 car
registered at present.
Tour 2006:
The Chairman Bill Rich read out a email received from Tommy
Dreelan regarding the tour in Southern Ireland giving a date
6th-15th July 2006 with possible areas around Killarney and
Dingle but no mention of Accommodation at present.
There was a little unrest from the floor due to the dates not
being quite weekend to weekend as the email stated and David
Goddard asked if a vote could be conducted on how many car
owners would go from the hall out of 20 cars 9 would go and 11
shall not be going. Therefore Haydn Davies asked the Chairman to
find out more details regarding Area, Accommodation and Ferry
Prices which the Chairman Bill Rich agreed to do. It was then
asked from the floor if this tour does not come to fruit,
whether we could have a standby Tour. Members asked if Bill Rich
could organise a tour around the New Forest if it fell through.
All members are asked to check the magazine for Tour details.
Merchandising:
Joy Davies informed the club that we at present do not have any
stock of Jumpers for sale, as all stock held by Diana Goddard
has been sold, and asked if any person would like some items
with Club Logo, a few samples were on show and their was no
takers on jumpers but we could find prices for Ties, Baseball
caps etc. Other items on display were brass car badges or
windscreen badges with preference for the latter.
The other item was a banner for our stand that Bob Dyke takes to
Auto jumbles and Blandford in September. Proposed by David
Goddard and 2nd by David Harding that we should get prices for a
banner for the trailer. (16'x 2')
Boiler Insurance and Inspections:
Peter Williams gave a talk regarding the issue of Boiler
insurance and his concern that the club did not have a Code of
Practice regarding the Pressure Vessel Regulation 2000 and
Health and Safety Regulations it was Proposed By Bob Ward and
2nd by Anthony Bever that we have a Technical Committee and the
following members offered their services Peter Williams, John
Goold, Justin Goold and David Goddard. Peter Williams then
showed the floor that he had a draft code of practice if anybody
would like to see it.
Sponsorship to the Steam Car Challenge:
The chairman asked if the club could give a sponsorship to the
Steam Car Challenge because he believed that the Steam Car Club
of Great Britain Ltd should have their name on the finished
article therefore Bill Rich gave a short talk on the progress of
the challenge. And it was proposed by Gerry Stoneman to give
£250 and 2nd by Haydn Davies
The meeting was closed at 5.15 p.m. to be followed by the Raffle
draw, Gerry Stoneman's auction and a few sale items by club
members.
Joy Davies.
The main reason for holding the meeting in the area is that
the steam land speed record car is being built in the workshops at Newtown Park
and we were privileged to see the progress being made
