  Correct Stanley Colours

Through the years, Stanley steamers had very few colour choices for their cars. The following are some of the modern paint formulas and modern paint codes presently used by today's restorers. Most all Stanleys had black fenders (mud guards). Entries below in quotations are taken directly from the Stanley season catalogs. Colour formulas are those that have been used successfully by restorers. Additional correct Stanley colour's, paint formulas and corrections are requested. Could you please help us in our search for the correct colour's and modern paint formulas?


1907, 1908, 1909 Stanley

Brewster body and yellow running gear.
The larger touring cars running gear used a paler shade than the smaller cars which had a brighter yellow running gear.
Bright yellow: John Deere Yellow; Dupont YS378

Regular Stanley colour combination of Brewster Green body and yellow running gear...
Pin strip done in Old Gold body color. Not in gold leaf.
Mountain wagons were Usatona red with black trim.
New mid year introduced models had nickel finish through out. i.e. model 72, model 85.

1913

The bodies are ivory black with gray running gears.
The running board and also the front floor boards are covered with gray linoleum bound with aluminum.
The colour of the Model 810 (mountain wagon) is red, both body and running gear

1914

The colour of the body and the wheel spokes is a dark, rich blue, called Russian blue, with gray striping. The running gear, except the wheel spokes, is black, without striping.” The Mountain Wagon's body colour is red, with black trim.

1915

Body and wheel spokes dark rich blue, called Valentine's Russian body blue, with fine gray striping. Running gear, except the wheel spokes, black without striping.

1916

Mountain Wagons: "A rich handsome red is used, called Valentine's Usatona Red for both body and running gear".

Royal Green with running gear and fenders black.
Royal Green: Dupont 2015 K National Fleet Green

1919-1920 Model 735

Body, hood, wheels, regent green; gun metal gray; or cobalt blue... Metal bound rubber-covered foot boards in front compartment. Corrugated rubber step mats.

1921 - 1922 Model 735

Stanley Dealer Bulletin 6/23/21 Number 158 "Brewster Green, the standard colour for our carriages". Orders for special colour's will be accepted accompanied by a deposit subject to an extra charge of $250 for open bodies and $300 for closed bodies."
