CORNISH STEAM CAR TOUR 2008.
Roger Charlton.
The 25th Anniversary of Camborne Trevithick Day is being held on the Saturday the 26th of April 2008. The
event is held to celebrate the first road run of the Trevithick Road Carriage in 1801 and consists of a full
day's rally and market held in the town centre followed on the Sunday morning by a re-enactment of the road run.
Charles Daniels, the event organiser, approached us to enquire whether some steam cars would attend and we felt
it would be a great opportunity to incorporate the event with a short tour of West Cornwall. The current
indications are that there will be room for some six to twelve cars within the town centre on the day of
the event. Should more wish to come on the tour, we will arrange an alternative day tour to Truro on the
Saturday for the remaining cars. All cars would attend the Sunday road run, after which we will carry on
touring for the remainder of the day.
Arrival would be on Thursday the 24th of April and departure in the morning of the following Tuesday, the
29th of April.
The tour will be based at Rosudgeon, a small village one mile east of Marazion, on the A394. We have a field
belonging to the village community centre which we can use for camping and parking the trailers and cars. The
centre has a bar area which also serves food and 24 hr access to toilet and shower facilities.
West Country Classic Cars, the garage owned by Michael Dyke, is directly opposite the site and he is kindly
providing our recovery service.
We are asking £25 a car to cover costs.
The cost for camping and parking for the five nights is £40. Should you only wish to use the site for parking
your trailer and car the cost will be £20.
In respect of other types of accommodation, we are leaving it for you to make your own arrangements, and
attached is a list of personally recommended places.
Please note this will not be an official British Steam Car Club Tour.
Anyone wishing to attend could you please contact me.

This hotel has recently won high praise in the Sunday Times and has weekend offers on during April
which the owner says she will extend over 5 days for steam car owners. It's not a place to take trailers!
