Do you remember what air pressure there was in the combustion chamber with that set up? My Stanley, from memory had about 0.5 inch water gauge in the mixing chamber on full fire - I'm interested to know if the blower burner runs at a higher pressure - same question to you as well Brian. Also Rolly what current did the fan draw? Oh and the dreaded steering shimmy - probably too much rearward inclination (castor) of the swivel pins - reverse wedges often sorts that out.
Brian - I had a similar idea of standpipes for the helical Lamont but realised that you can equally well use circular coils as in the picture of this wooden curtain ring mock up I made. I also did drawings of the circulation and the whole thing which I will email to you but although the set up would solve the steam and water separation it got a bit complicated to make, and possibly heavy, so a drum is better for me. In the picture if you imagine the box sections are tubular standpipes connecting the coils, the returning water from the Lamont circuit is sent up the leg with the higher side of the coils, and the water to the pump is drawn from the bottom of the other leg. steam is collected from the top of both standpipes. Steam goes up and water down. Simple concept but a fiddle to make.
I'd also found the SPAL fans although I'd use a smaller one. Your meltdown is a worry! I am proposing a bottom fired generator but because I have very litte room to get the exhaust gas flue back down I was thinking of top firing instead with lots of insulation around the steam filled top of my drum - but to avoid the melt down syndrome the burner fan would need to be mounted low down not at the top so I'd be no better off.
