With great sadness I have to inform you all of the death of Roger Newbery who passed away in the early hours of Monday the 25th May.
Roger filmed us on a number of of our tours, invariably accompanied by his wife Mary. He always managed to capture the spirit of our events, the curious character of our cars and convey so well the quirkiness of the owners and passengers.
The Pembrokeshire Blue Stone Tour was the last event that Roger filmed with us and it seemed that where ever we went, Roger was waiting to film us as we rounded a corner, fork in the road or arriving at an attraction. Somehow or other, he would then magically appear a mile or two ahead, all set up to film us again as we passed by! At times it appeared that there were several Rogers in the area! It was all down to the homework he put in to choosing the locations.
Gentle, quiet and unnasuming, Roger just loved being with steam people and he will be sadly missed by all of us. I will find it difficult at the next tour not finding Roger assisted by Mary waiting for us to steam by with his camera at the ready.
On behalf of all Steam Car Owners, we pass our condolances to Mary and family and our thoughts will be with her at this difficult time.
We are so fortunate that Roger left us with such wonderful memories of our events on film.
