Purbeck Tour

We're back from the brilliant Purbeck Tour.

Five days of fun with visits to real railways, garden railways, fantastic scenery, castles, churches, the tank museum, cake shops, and pubs. Now all are fat and contented! Several of us enjoyed an afternoon on the Solent aboard the magnificent paddle steamer Waverley. Very few car problems and only one car failed to finish the tour. Wonderful all round and many thanks to our organisers Peter and Richard, who with Liz and Jenny, did us proud for this tour in the 20th year since the founding of the Club. Next year our 21st birthday in Norfolk! It'll be another good 'un.

Mike

What a great tour in the beautiful Purbeck contryside, great organization by Richard and Jenny Pink - Peter and Liz Cookson, not only good planning but even managed to get some of the route resurfaced for us, here we are back to the "good old days", a good mix of friends and social "banter" with sunshine thrown in for good measure, the routes were a nice mix of modest hills not too taxing for our old machines and not too long for the smaller car, we had a pilot block up but the railway workshop came to our rescue and all was well, till a lunch stop where a fuel line fractured but that was an easy repair, the Morriss ran very well otherwise and we all had a bl**dy good time.
Many thanks to you guys and gals "dahrn sarf", the club has a couple of events planned for 2010. "Cotswolds" & then "Norfolk" these are to be spaced 3 or so months apart so we don't "overdose" on steam cars. regards to all SCCGB members Les Nelson.

Yes, I totally agree to the above. Thanks to Richard, Jenny, Peter and Liz we had a great week.

Jan and I really enjoyed ourselves from the very start because the atmosphere created by every one was so good -the routes and fascinating places we visited were an added bonus!

In particular it was such a joy just to meet up with the old gang and feel comfortable being with a bunch of people with a common interest and a real zest for life! Roll on the next tour!

Pauline and I would also like to say how much we enjoyed ourselves at the Purbeck tour, many thanks to Peter, Liz, Richard and Jenny for organising such a successful tour which brought everyone together so well.

After the terrible weather of the week before the skies cleared and out came the sun as we toured through wonderful Dorset countryside, with many interesting things to see and do. It was so pleasant to be with old and new members of The Steam Car Club of Great Britain, just like the old days!

Jeff and Pauline.

Owing to other commitments, Lesley, Andrew and I could only take part in the Purbeck tour for the first two days, but what a great time we had. We would like to thank Richard, Jenny, Peter and Liz who did a fantastic job of organizing the tour and seemed to have water laid on every time we stopped, ( just as well in our case!). Being “the new kids on the block” we were amazed at how friendly everyone was, almost as if we had known them for years.

A bonus for me was to have a ride in both the Turner-Miese, looked after by John Tilley, and Mike Clark’s H5 - it’s amazing that there’s only 3 years between these two totally different cars.

We’re very much looking forward to next year’s tours!

Thanks to Peter and Liz, Richard and Jenny for a fabulous tour and routes. It was so good to be able to sit down for a meal in the evenings with so many friends and see the tables full of smiling faces. For people to see and ride on all the different cars was such a pleasure. It just got better and better.

Thanks, thanks, thanks !

Basil and Vicki
