Hi,
i'm building a small steam wagon, basically a steam pickup truck. Its approx ten feet long and four feet wide. I'm using a merryweather vertical boiler, a bedford rascal gearbox and back axle and a purpose built chassis and front axle.
My problem is that I'm not certain what engine I can use and where to get one?
What would be powerful enough to cruise at 20 to 30mph and keep going up hill without emptying the boiler to quickly? The working preassure of the boiler is only 100 psi, but I itend on superheating it.
Can anyoune give me any tips?
Cheers
Ballard

Buy a Cat pump 610 model,
and build it a differant
head of flat stock, fit it with
Valves that are opened and closed
by chain driven cam. The twin cylinder
Engines of same displacment are 20-30 hp.
And with a small boiler? Small cylinders is
Better, steam tends to have a high amount of torque,
So, as long as the valve duration is set to stay open
for long enough, it should make good power.
