A Record-Breaking Evening with Don Wales
at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, Hampshire

You are invited to join the Friends of the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu for a special evening with Don Wales. Don is the grandson of Sir Malcolm Campbell MBE and the nephew of Donald Campbell CBE, who between them broke over 20 World Land and Water Speed Records. Don himself holds numerous Land Speed Records including the World Land Speed Record for a Steam car and the UK National Record for an Electric car, ‘The Bluebird Electric’. More recently on 23 May Don and Project Runningblade succeeded in breaking the World Speed Record for a lawn mower.

Don’s talks are a mix of family history and human endeavour, centering on the achievements of his grandfather and his uncle. He also talks about his own personal experiences whilst record breaking. He is now planning the next Bluebird Electric car to attempt the World record in 2012, with speeds expected to be over 350mph - not bad for a battery car!

The National Motor Museum will be open beforehand from 6.00pm for a private viewing (at no extra charge) and the show will take place in the Lecture Theatre of the Collections Centre (a short walk from the Museum), beginning at 7.30pm and concluding at around 10.00pm. Please follow signs for parking. Tickets are £10.00 each (all proceeds go to the National Motor Museum Trust) and are available from Theresa Browning (Tel: 01590 614792) or e-mail theresa.browning@beaulieu.co.uk. A pay bar will be available for the purchase of beers, wines, soft drinks and tea and coffee. We regret we cannot provide food. Please have your tickets available on arrival in the Collections Centre. You do not need to show your tickets when visiting the Museum prior to the talk.

Please Note: Due to a another function in the Museum on that night, please take care when visiting as staff will be busy moving tables in preparation.
