Hi, Why do Stanley's have two fuel Pressure tanks? This is the later fuel system where fuel is pumped into tanks filled with air. Please could you tell me why. Thanks.Old Timer.

The 1914 Stanley touring and several others did use only a single main fuel pressure tank. The reason for two tanks is because they greatly reduce the air absorption into the main fuel. Ideally when properly charged, one tank is full of air and the other is full of fuel. This seperation reduces the air/fuel contact area between the two for the fuel to be absorbed the air. Once the air is absorbed by the fuel, one has to stop and recharge the fuel system with air. The air in the pressure tanks takes the pressure swings out of the fuel system as the fuel is piston pumped into the bottles. The Stanleys held the patent on this system. White wanted to use the fuel pressure bottles too but they could not because of Stanley's patent rights.
