Pilot Fuel for Stanley

What's best - Hexane or Heptane?

Rang my local chemical suppliers & they asked if I'd considered heptane as pilot fuel as it was cheaper.

Anyone know why heptane is not used? Does not seem to be much mention of it in steam car forums.

Hexane is the best that you can get for the Stanley pilot. Here in the U.S.A. it is not available just everywhere like Coleman fuel is, so we more often use Coleman fuel than Hexane here.

I don't see whats wrong with good old petrol, I have been using it for the past 20 years and it has been OK for me, I do not have any more trouble with it than anyone else as it is kept CLEEEEEEEEEAN as part of the routine maintainance of running a steamer. and it is available just about everywhere
