Another great magazine with a good cross section of topics.
On page 39 (from Jeff’s archives) the fire engine that’s going like the blazes (pardon the pun) is “Jumbo” the largest fire engine of its day weighed in at 9 tons. It was purchased new in 1889 by the city of Hartford, Connecticut. from the famous Amoskeag Steam Fire Engine Company of Manchester, NH. At a cost of $7000.
I wonder how many fires it started on the way to a fire!
