Locomobile - Land's End to John O'Groats - Dec 1900
Posted by: (---.bb.sky.com)
Date: October 15, 2011 03:58AM

Good morning all - I have only this morning joined the forum

I am Chairman of the End 2 End Club ( Land's End to John O'Groats)

For anyone with an interest or owner of a Locombile - my company has the original leather bound John O'Groats House Hotel Visitor books which features an End to End run by one Herbert W Egerton on a Locomobile that left John O'Groats on 11th December 1900

The entry includes a short write up and sketch of the vehicle by the driver and a poem written by the passenger

I will glaldy send a copy to anyone who has an interest in these vehicles - nice to add to your vehicles historic documentation

Regards to all
Dudley Westgate

Dudley,

That was of course a historic trip and quite an epic. Would it be possible for a copy of the document to be put on this Club website for all to see? I'm sure our web site manager would be glad to do this.

Mike

Marylin, many thanks for posting the diary entry on the clubs web site
I am now searching our archives to see if we have an actual photograph
of the Locomobile leaving John O'Groats on 11th Dec 1900 - we have many pictures of these very early epic journeys, so it may take me a little while getting through them all

Regards and many thanks,
Dudley

The Scottish Motor Museum Trust have some photographs on the following site [www.scran.ac.uk] Search for Locomobile, unfortunately you need to pay a small fee to get full sized downloads. There are a number of steam car related pictures in their archive.

Would these two patents be of any help?

I have now found some more information on this epic trip in 1900
I have contacted Marylin and offered the article for publication on the forum
It appears that the driver Hubert W Egerton was in fact the founder of
Mann Egerton
The atricle has photos of the arrival at Land's End - so they did make it !
It also gives some spec of the car and performance and journey details

Regards to all
