Pictures on forum

Pictures on the forum - you can't do thatreally but here is a suggecstion.

We don’t have a facility to let forum members post pictures and you can’t just copy and paste them into your posts - which is probably just as well as it would make the forum very slow for non broadband users - however it is often nice to be able to illustrate a point as I just did on the “crosshead post” by means of a link to another web location (URL) but this means that you have to put the picture on the web somewhere else. How do we do that?

It’s not difficult as there are many free of charge picture hosting websites.

I would like to suggest that we agree on a common one, www.flickr.com which is free for up to 10Mb of pictures per month say 40 pictures at 250kb. It keeps your last 100 pictures visible and interestingly for us as a group, allows the owner of the picture to “tag” it with a subject description which allows anyone searching the site to look for all pictures tagged (for example) “Steamcars”. There are lots of other possibilities including setting whether your picture is for public view or for your chums only and whether you wish to keep copyright, all of which you can find on the flickr site.

The site seems easy to use and allows you to select pictures from your computer and post them up to 5 at a time. They are loaded onto the site a few minutes later and you can then add captions and notes as you wish to be read by those who look at the picture on the flickr site. You can make them accessible on the Forum simply by copying the URL of the chosen picture from your personal flickr photo page and pasting it into your forum post. Then anyone clicking on that link sees the picture in a new window.
