Our car has developed a steam leak on the taper screwed pipe elbow connecting the main steam line and the packed swivel joint on the cylinder block.

Can’t dismantle the joint without removing the steam line, but can partly unscrew it.

Last time this happened I cleaned everything off as best I could with carb cleaner, a brass brush and a scriber, then used heldite to seal the joint.

Before doing this again, any suggestions for an alternative thread sealer?
